Enabling GoToMyPC with CA Anti-virus Software

If your computer is protected by CA and you are experiencing connection issues, then your firewall may be preventing a connection. In order to use GoToMyPC without disabling your firewall, follow these steps.

If after following these instructions you still have firewall- related issues, then CA Support may be able to provide assistance.

CA Firewalls

CA eTrust Threat Management

CA Internet Security Suite

CA Security Center

CA eTrust Threat Management

  1. Open eTrust Threat Management.
  2. Select eTrust PestPatrol. (a)
  3. Select Settings. (b)
  4. Select Exclusions. (c)
  5. Select Paths.(d)
  6. Select Add. (e)
  7. Browse to the LogMeIn program folder.
  8. Select OK.
  9. Select Apply. (f)

CA Internet Security Suite

  1. Double-select the CA icon in the system tray (normally the bottom right of your screen).
  2. Select My Computer.
  3. Select Update Settings. (a)
  4. Scroll down and uncheck Use advanced heuristic scanning.
  5. Scroll to Advanced Threat Exclusion.
  6. Select Browse.
  7. Select Paths.
  8. Navigate to the GoToMyPC program folder and exclude it from scanning.
  9. Select Apply to save changes.
  10. Uncheck Auto-scan and On-Demand. (b)
  11. Select Apply. (c)
  12. Select Scan.
  13. Select View Scan Results. (d). You should see the files for GoToMyPC listed.
  14. Select View Quarantine.
  15. Check the box for GoToMyPC. (e)
  16. Select Exclude. (f)
  17. Uncheck the Auto-scan and On-demand boxes and then select OK.
  18. Check the box for GoToMyPC.
  19. Select Restore. (g)
  20. Perform another scan. There should be no threats detected.
  21. Check to see that the GoToMyPC files are still in the GoToMyPC program folder.
  22. Reboot and ensure that GoToMyPC is still installed on your computer.
    You are now ready to use GoToMyPC with your CA Internet Security Suite firewall.

CA Security Center

CA Security Center has multiple components. Depending on what you have enabled, you may have to configure your Anti-Virus, Anti-Spyware, and Personal Firewall components to allow GoToMyPC to function on your host computer.

Anti-Virus

  1. Open CA Security Center.
  2. Select the arrow icon to the right of CA Anti-Virus. (a)
  3. Select Options. (f)
  4. To the right of On-demand scanner, check the boxes under Clean and Quarantine and then select Modify. (d)
  5. In the window that opens, select Add.
  6. Select Browse, browse to the GoToMyPC program folder and exclude it from scanning.
  7. Select OK.
  8. If Real-time Scanner is enabled, repeat steps 4-7. (e)

Anti-Spyware

  1. Open CA Security Center.
  2. Select the arrow icon to the right of the CA Anti-Spyware . (b)
  3. Select Advanced Settings.
  4. Select Options. (m)
  5. To the right of On-demand scanner, check the box under Quarantine and then select Modify. (n)
  6. Select Browse.
  7. Navigate to the GoToMyPC program folder and exclude it from scanning.
  8. Select Close.
  9. Repeat steps 5-8 for the Real-time scanner. (o)

Personal Firewall

  1. Open CA Security Center
  2. Select the arrow icon to the right of CA Personal Firewall. (b)
  3. Select Firewall. (g)
  4. Select g2viewer.exe (j) and then select Edit. (h) The Configure Application Rules window opens.
  5. Select Add.
  6. Select the Expert Rules tab. (i)
  7. Under Protocols and Ports, select TCP UDP ALL from the drop-down menu, check the Enable Rule box, and name the rule NAT1.
  8. Repeat steps 4-7 for g2comm.exe. (k)
  9. Try logging in to GoToMyPC.

Results:

If you still cannot log in

  1. Select the Privacy tab. (l)
  2. Turn off all components within the privacy window by moving their sliders down to Off.
