Using firewalls with GoToMyPC

Using firewalls with GoToMyPC

Firewalls are a popular and effective security option designed to block unauthorized outgoing and incoming communications with your computer. Some firewalls require additional steps to authorize trusted applications like GoToMyPC.

GoToMyPC uses ports: 80, 443 and 8200. One-way TCP connectivity is needed (TCP outbound). Visit our IP Range Fact Sheet for more information.

Step 1 – Grant permission in your firewall program

Before you begin: When you first install GoToMyPC on your host computer, GoToMyPC attempts a secure connection with the GoToMyPC communication servers. This connection process could trigger firewall alerts that will prompt you for action.
  1. If you receive a firewall alert, check the Remember this answer each time I use this program box.
  2. Select Yes to enable GoToMyPC to access the internet.
  3. If your firewall does not automatically ask to allow GoToMyPC access to the Internet, you may have to enable it manually.

Step 2 – Navigate and accept the GoToMyPC components, update your security software

If you are using an older or expired security software, we recommend that you update it with the most recent version from its manufacturer. Even if a security program expires, its firewall component may still be active and could still cause GoToMyPC connection failures. If your security or firewall program has expired, we recommend either renewing the license so that you may configure its firewall or uninstall it and utilize a different security or firewall solution.

GoToMyPC periodically releases updates for both host and client software. You may need to update your security software to the appropriate version provided by your manufacturer in order for it to recognize newer versions of the GoToMyPC software.

Add a firewall exception for GoToMyPC

Add the following paths to your firewall exception to avoid your employee getting stuck due to the firewall blocking the newer version of GoToMyPC.
  • C:\Users\*\AppData\Local\GoToMyPC\GoToMyPC_*.exe
  • C:\Users\*\AppData\Local\GoToMyPC\G2_*\g2viewer.exe
  • C:\Users\*\AppData\Local\GoToMyPC\g2quick.exe
