Keyboard shortcuts for GoToMyPC

Use these keyboard shortcuts for GoToMyPC and speed up your workflow. Please note that GoToMyPC does not support Chromebooks.

Important: GoToMyPC now provides an updated experience: New GoToMyPC. Choose your current GoToMyPC experience for the applicable information on system requirements.
  • If you are using GoToMyPC at gotomypc.com, you are on GoToMyPC Classic.
  • If you are using GoToMyPC at console.gotomypc.com, you are on New GoToMyPC.

How to send keyboard shortcuts from a Windows keyboard to a Mac environment, and from a Mac keyboard to a Windows environment?

When handling macOS from Windows and vice versa, some buttons behave differently. To make the shortcuts work described in the tables, apply the below rules:

In case of connections from Windows to Mac:
  • the Windows key acts as the command key on macOS
  • the Ctrl key acts as the control key on macOS
  • the Alt key acts as the option key on macOS
  • the backspace key acts as the delete key on macOS
In case of connections from Mac to Windows:
  • the command key acts as the Windows key
  • the control key acts as the Ctrl key
  • the option key acts as the Alt key
  • the delete key acts as the backspace key

GoToMyPC Classic

From a Windows client computer to a Windows host computer

Ctrl + X Cut the selected item.
Ctrl + C (or Ctrl + Insert) Copy the selected item.
Ctrl + V (or Shift + Insert) Paste the selected item.
Ctrl + Z Undo an action.
Alt + Tab Switch between open apps.
Alt + F4 Close the active item or exit the active app.
Windows logo key + D Display or hide the desktop.
F2 Rename the selected item.
F5 Refresh the active window.
Alt + Spacebar Open the shortcut menu for the active window.
Alt + Left arrow Go back.
Alt + Right arrow Go forward.
Ctrl + A Select all items in a document or window.
Ctrl + D (or delete) Delete the selected item and move it to the Recycle Bin.
Ctrl + E Open Search (in most apps).
Ctrl + Y Redo an action.
Ctrl + Shift + Esc Open Task Manager.
Shift + Delete Permanently delete the selected item without moving it to the Recycle Bin first.
Right arrow Open the next menu to the right or open a submenu.
Left arrow Open the next menu to the left or close a submenu.
Esc Stop or leave the current task.
Windows logo key Open or close Start.
CTRL + tab Move between tabs.
Windows logo key + E Open File Explorer.
Windows logo key + M Minimize all windows.
Windows logo key + Shift + M Restore minimized windows on the desktop.

Spacebar Select or clear the check box if the active option is a check box.
Backspace Open a folder one level up if a folder is selected in the Save As or Open dialog box.

From a Windows client computer to a Mac host computer

Command + X Cut the selected item and copy it to the Clipboard.
Command + C Copy the selected item to the Clipboard. This also works for files in the Finder.
Command + V Paste the contents of the Clipboard into the current document or app. This also works for files in the Finder.
Command + Z Undo.
Shift + Command + Z Redo.
Command + A Select all.
Command + F Find.
Command + G Next occurrence.
Shift + Command + G Previous occurrence.
Command + H Hide the windows of the front app.
Option + Command + H View the front app but hide all other apps.
Command + M Minimize the front window to the Dock.
Option + Command + M Minimize all windows of the front app.
Command + O Open the selected item or open a dialog to select a file to open.
Command + P Print.
Command + S Save.
Command + T Open a new tab.
Command + W Close the front window.
Command + Space bar Spotlight search.
Control + Command + Space bar Show the Character Viewer, from which you can choose emoji and other symbols.
Control + Command + F Use the app in full screen, if supported by the app.
Space bar Use Quick Look to preview the selected item.
Shift + Command + N Create a new folder in the Finder.
Command + ~ Switch between the windows of the same app.

From a Mac client computer to a Windows host computer

Ctrl + X Cut the selected item.
