Share access with a second user

Share access with a second user

You can learn from this article what happens when an administrator grants shared access rights on Windows computers to another user using GoToMyPC.

If you are on a GoToMyPC Corporate or Pro plan, your admin may have given shared access rights to other users. This will typically be those who manage your computer (e.g., your company's IT specialist may use GoToMyPC to remotely maintain your computer).
Note: This feature is only available on Windows computers.

If your admin has enabled shared access to your computer, you will experience the following:

  • Receive an email from GoToMyPC Global Customer Support notifying you that your admin has enabled shared access of your computer with at least one other user.
  • Be asked to provide the additional user with your access code. After the second user ends their connection to your computer, we recommend that you change your access code.

Access codes for shared users

When a secondary user is granted access to your host computer, they will inherit your original access code. This access code will remain the same for the secondary user, even if you change the access code afterwards. If the original access code is forgotten by both you and the secondary user, then the admin will need to revoke the original shared access invitation and grant a new one. If the secondary user has physical access to your host computer, they can change the access code by following the steps here. Note that if the secondary user fails to log in after three attempts, all users who have access to your computer will be locked out. In that case, you will need to contact your admin to unlock your computer.

For example, your company's IT specialist may use GoToMyPC Corporate to remotely maintain your PC. If your administrator has enabled shared access to your PC, you will:

  • Receive an email from GoToMyPC Global Customer Support notifying you that your administrator has enabled shared access on your PC with at least one other user.
  • Be asked to provide the additional user with your access code. After the other user signs in to your PC, we recommend that you change your access code.

In-session reboot

If you have shared access enabled, you can use in-session reboot to remotely restart your host computer and log back in with your Windows login credentials.
